Outside the Box

Every community has its political theatre, aided and abetted by local media. Coloring outside the box is not encouraged.

With the evisceration of investigating reporting in mainstream news, citizen journalism has filled the gap, helping communities make sense of things. Often the only ones willing to expose local corruption in local politics, citizen journalists are routinely attacked by their investigative targets, as well as actively marginalized by their less courageous fellow citizens.

Weathering the disappointments from the complacent, mediocre, and silent is tiring, but enduring the betrayals by petty tyrants and provincial pundits can be discouraging to all but the stalwart. If you want to have a voice in public affairs, you have to fight for it. Color outside the box.
